Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding

Every Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an individual or organization doing good work in the horse world. Today, we’re recognizing Gulf Coast Thoroughbred Network, based in south Louisiana.

Gulf Coast Thoroughbred Network launched in August of 2015, providing free online listings of retiring Thoroughbreds for trainers and owners in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast area. The Gulf Coast Thoroughbred Network (GCTBNetwork) lists available horses for purchase on its website and social media, helping to network homes for retiring racehorses in need.

GCTBNetwork shares as much information as it can about each horse, especially if the horse is recovering from an injury. When necessary, GCTBNetwork uses its network of foster homes to keep retiring racehorses from heading to the kill pens and auction barns.

GCTBNetwork is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Donations are used for adoption and rescue fees, trailering and travel fees, and fostering fees among other expenses. Volunteers who are interested in helping can give their time to help network horses in need, plus donate hay, feed and other needs, or foster horses in need of a soft landing.

To help streamline the communication process, especially as retiring racehorses may need to be placed very quickly, GCTBNetwork has an easy pre-approval application for anyone who finds a horse in which they’re interested on GCTBNetwork’s listings. Horse listings include basic information such as gender, height, color, breeding, location, fee and a brief description based on volunteer meetings. Each horse also has video listed of its gaits.

Here’s an example of a horse currently available through the network, Sister’s Image:

Many thanks thanks to Ovation Riding for their support of both Horse Nation and individuals and organizations that are doing good work in the horse world. If you know someone who deserves a Standing Ovation, we would love to recognize them in a future post. Email the name of the person or organization along with a message about the good work they do to [email protected]. Photos/videos are always welcome, and include a link to their website if applicable.
