‘Saving Theo’ Wins Winnie Award at EQUUS Film Festival

Congratulations to author Candace Wade!

A Winnie Award for Equine Magazine Article was won by contributing writer Candace Wade of Horse Nation for the “Saving Theo” series at the 2016 EQUUS Film Festival in New York City.

“The award represents 11 months of observation and education of the ongoing mental and physical challenges associated with the rescue and rehabilitation of Theo, a former big lick Tennessee Walker show horse. I share the smile over this award with the rescuer who trusted me with Theo’s story, with Kristen Kovatch, editor of Horse Nation for believing in the ‘Saving Theo’ project and with Theo – noble and willing, who tacitly endures all the efforts to bring him to mental and physical health,” Candace states.

The EQUUS Film Festival NYC was held on November 17-20 2016 at the Village East Theater 181- 189 2nd Avenue at 12th Avenue, New York City. Executive Director and founder Lisa Diersen has presented a platform to bring together equine enthusiasts from all over the world to explore the world of the horse in film, print art, literature and discussion panels. The goal is to appreciate the horse and discover ways to improve their lives.

Our festival has been created to highlight and award the diverse and creative efforts of those who artistically pay homage to the horse. The festival empowers storytellers to show the rich history and diverse tapestry of horses in human culture through equestrian content.  We have feature films, documentaries, shorts, music videos, commercials, training educational materials, art and literature.
