SpectraVET Performance of the Week: RRP Freestyle

Out of the countless incredible stories and bonds between horse and rider to come out of this year’s Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover, one of the greatest videos is of the freestyle winners, Lindsey Partridge and Trivia Time.

The Retired Racehorse Project’s annual Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium wrapped at the Kentucky Horse Park over the weekend, drawing 300 equine entries and over 2,500 spectators (plus up to 3,000 more viewing the online live stream). The horses were all recently-retired Thoroughreds from the track, with partnerships with their respective second-career trainers starting only in the previous year.

While many of the parternships demonstrated in the divisions of barrel racing, competitive trail, dressage, eventing, field hunter, freestyle, polo, show hunters, show jumpers, and working ranch wowed the crowd — of particular note was Fairway King who won America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred under the guidance of Lauren Turner, as well as Michelle Craig, winner of the Ambassador Award, who competed her horse Youmightbearedneck without a bridle due to injuries sustained during a trailering accident — the winning freestyle performance is particularly memorable.

Watch the video of the winning freestyle finals ride, Lindsey Partridge with Trivia Time, bridleless and in just a bareback pad:

Horses in big giant tarps will never cease to give us goosebumps. What a nice little mare: Trivia Time earned just $1,079 in three starts as a racehorse, and after watching this video we have to say that she seems to show a lot more aptitude as a riding mount!

Partridge is the only trainer in RRP history to win two divisions: with Trivia Time, she captured both the competitive trail and the freestyle competitions. She also competed a second horse, Pentland, to the finals in both of his divisions of competitive trail and field hunter, setting another RRP record. Partridge is based out of Ontario, Canada where she operates Harmony Horsemanship.
