SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Chris Burton Wins Burghley

Australian Christopher Burton aboard Nobilis 18 earned a spectacular win at the CCI4* Burghley Horse Trials last weekend: watch their cross-country ride on the famously challenging course!

Burghley is one of the most notoriously challenging three-day events in the world —  it’s the kind of competition that’s the stuff of dreams and goals for riders at all levels of the sport, from youngsters just starting out to professionals already riding at the highest caliber. It’s not supposed to be easy — but arguably, Christopher Burton of Australia aboard Nobilis 18, in the horse’s first CCI4* competition, made the weekend look pretty close to simple.

Burton and Nobilis started things out right with a British four-star record-smashing 30.2% in dressage, rocketing right to the lead. Over a very challenging cross-country course, the pair put in a smooth, essentially textbook ride, finishing with just 3.8 time faults to comfortably hold on to the lead.

After such a grueling day, the showjumping wasn’t necessarily the cherry on top of a Burghley sundae for this pair — they knocked four rails, rapidly eating up the comfy lead they had achieved a day prior — but Burton and Nobilis still proved to be uncatchable, and they’re headed home with a shiny new trophy for their efforts.
