If Your Horse Was a High School Student …

Everyone’s back to school! Which means it’s time for a scholastic thought experiment: in the high school of your barn, who is your horse?

Every horse has his or her own unique personality, and so do hormone-driven, angsty teenagers.  Whether you like it or not, there are some very clear similarities between our equine companions and the average high school student. Here are some stereotypes that may apply to your four-legged friend.

1. The kid who always falls asleep in class. Is your horse always napping? Do you feel like it takes extraordinary amounts of leg just to move him away from the mounting block? Would he rather be sprawled out in his stall than be in the show ring? If your horse was a high school student, he would be the kid that’s always passed out on his desk, and he’s completely okay with it. He probably stays up late throwing aisle parties and is not too concerned with schoolwork.

2. The jock. Does your horse like to display his dominance at every available opportunity? Is your horse the alpha male in the barn? Congrats, you’re the proud owner of a teenage jock. This guy is athletic as all get out and wants everyone to know it. He has a lot of potential that is just waiting to be tapped into. He has his eyes on the prize and will do anything for a blue ribbon.

3. The know-it-all. Does your horse anticipate your next move and constantly outsmart you? If your horse was a high school student, she’d be the girl that constantly raises her hand in class. In some cases, she may be the teacher’s pet. She probably wears argyle sweaters and knee-high socks and totally rocks it.

4. The goody two-shoes. If your horse is always on her best behavior and never likes to break the barn rules, she’s definitely a goody two-shoes. She promptly goes to bed at 9:30 P.M. every night to make sure she is well-rested for school tomorrow. She doesn’t like to lose, and if you treat her right, she’ll win you endless tricolors.

Give your horse the “high school” treatment: if he or she were a student, who would they be? Leave your ideas in the comments section!
