SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Special Nu Baby

Special Nu Baby and Matt Gaines marked a 234 in the Open Mercuria Finals at the El Rancho Futurity, tying the record high score in National Cutting Horse Association history.

Watching a cutting horse perform its totally-instinctual task of keeping a cow from rejoining the herd is always impressive. But watch this performance by Special Nu Baby, a nine-year-old mare by the legendary Dual Rey, and we think you’ll agree that “Baby” is in a class all by herself:

And the judges agreed, scoring Special Nu Baby and Matt Gaines with a 234 to tie the all-time record high score awarded at a NCHA event. This performance took place on Sunday, September 13 at the Murieta Equestrian Center in Rancho Murieta, California. This mare’s preternatural ability to read a cow leaves us speechless.

Gaines had this to say on his Facebook page:

As I’m sure many of you have heard by now, Baby and I marked an amazing 234 last night to win the Open Mercuria Finals…

Special Nu Baby just keeps setting the bar higher, and we look forward to seeing what she can do next!

Go riding!
