The Athletic Rider: Bent Over Row

Personal trainer Leah Hinnefeld tells us why the dumbbell bent over row is a super rider fitness exercise you should try at home.

From Leah:

The dumbbell bent over row is a super rider fitness exercise that can be used to define and refine the upper back, arms and shoulders. Talk about creating gorgeous and effective posture in the saddle! It is really important to keep a neutral spine during the entire exercise as you raise and lower the dumbbell.

Using a bench will provide stability and allow you to lift more. If you want to add some core training to this exercise, use a stability ball instead of a bench. If you do not have a bench or ball, you can also do the bent over row while standing. The bent over row is also a great substitute for any workout that requires a pull-up! Just remember the biggest tip of all — don’t hit the cat!
