He just felt ever so slightly “off” after the abscess. My paranoia finally got him to the vet for xrays in June…but the damage was already done. My pony (Beginner Novice rider here) blew a huge abscess in April. It popped right out the front of his foot on the hairline. As that damaged area grew down it slowly tore away at the laminae until he had coffin bone rotation and “mechanical founder” was diagnosed in June. My vet suggested up to a year layoff to regrow the whole darn hoof and hope…sometimes that single word is very annoying…that the damaged laminae reattach. It’s been a huge disappointment and I’ve gone through just about every emotion imaginable. It’s very frustrating because I was just getting started and had just completed my first rated trial. Sigh….
