We're still working on practicing T3 for the show, but now perfecting the stretchy circle, a 20m circle ridden when you allow the horse to stretch down and forward. Athene gives me her nose down to the level of her knees, but brings it back up in a few secs. Enter a tip from my instructor, who says when you're preparing for the stretch by asking your horse to raise her head, you request some inside bend so that when you loosen the reins--outside rein first--you still have a bit of bend left. If Athene raises her head before you ask for it, you ask for more bend. The bend controls the amount of stretch you allow or request, something I didn't know. When you gather up the reins at the end of the circle, start with the inside rein, followed quickly by the outside rein, so that she stays round.

I'll be doing that all weekend, so that stretching is so second nature to Athene that she does it even when she'd prefer look around at everything that's distracting her. Good thing my instructor is so knowledgeable: I'd be lost without her. That's why I got a 50 at the last recognized show I went to, bc I didn't have an instructor then. :D
