thanks for your kind words, Kim! We are not planning to breed Posie, despite her exceptional features and the wonderful history that flows in her veins. At 13, and with a number of health concerns, I would not consider risking her for a foal. Especially not with 50,000+ mustangs sitting in holding pens waiting to be adopted. Yes, her story is unique, but so is the story of every American mustang.

Best of luck to you in your breeding program, your mission of preservation is certainly admirable!

She is gorgeous! I would have her bred now though. Do you know of any Spanish type Sulphur stallions around? The Spanish type is all but gone from the Sulphur HMA. I own two Sulphur mares and have been involved with the breed for 12 years. Please email me as I would love to talk more with you about your mare.

Hi Victoria, thank you for reading! Posie's particular herd has a lot of history because of the nature of the Sulphur Springs HMA. Because they are so isolated, their story is a lot easier to track than some of the other herds! That being said, you did the right thing contacting your BLM office- sometimes the office closest to the HMA can be best for getting more information. Also, when doing research on some of these more rural topics, it's worth it to ask a few "old timers" in the area. In your case, San Bernadino National Forest Rangers might be a good resource, and may know of few older folks who know the past of the herd better than anyone! Good luck!

that is so interesting, how did you find out all of this history? just browsing the internet? my mustang is from the twin peaks, california herd, and from what the BLM told me when I called with his registration number, is that his particular herd is known for producing endurance mustangs, and larger mustangs. i would LOVE to explore his herd's history deeper!
