HN Classifieds: ‘Appaloosa Mini Mare – $250′

Reader Victoria Smith sent us a link to this ad with the note, “They seriously put a pony in a Ford Explorer? What in the world!!” Enjoy.

Appaloosa Mini Mare – $250 (Crawford/Seale)

Date: 2012-08-31, 11:56AM EDT

3 year old sweet mini mare. She has not been saddle because we could not find one to small enough to fit her. But, we have lead my 2 year old great grandson around on her and the grandkids have ridden her bareback with a halter and lead rope. She is super sweet and gentle. She gets along great with full size horses. She is very small, we brought her home in the back of a Ford Explorer. She is up to date of all shots, neg. coggins and just had her feet trimmed. Leads, loads and ties with no problems.
Pocohontias is black with snow on her rump and a white mane and tail. Just beautiful.

Up Date: I have found a new 8 inch black leather saddle that will fit Poco. The saddle is $200 or buy them both for $350.

You don’t ride minis, regardless of how small the rider is, and regardless of finding a small saddle. The fact that you can find a saddle for a mini only says that somebody knows how stupid people can be, and is filling the niche. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never heard of Mini Seat Equitation being a class at a mini show. Maybe driving and halter, but riding? I don’t think so.

Thanks to Amy Lee for putting this on facebook! My trainer’s daughter used to ride a mini when she was 3 and 4. Goliath (aptly named haha) was a great mini and is a great teacher to the kids at the farm!

We brought my mini home in the back of a suburban…. He was just a weanling though and we’d folded the third row seats down, laid a tarp and a bunch of straw and shavings and one of those xtra large dog crates, which he fit into. It was kind of like those airplane shipping containers they use for horses, but smaller!

We brought home a friend’s mini tonight to babysit our enormous 12.2h welsh pony. My kids are hooked, and I’m trying to resist the temptation of another vet bill. I googled Mini’s for sale in Pa & actually found a site for “buy 2 minis, get one free”. What, is this Joseph A. Banks! That’s just not right!!
