Yes, she was hurt but she was prepared for that possible outcome, we all know it’s a possibility whether riding xc at the Olympics or just working on our ponies at home on the flat. It is so unfortunate that Hawley now has to see that the only coverage our sport gets (other than the brief mentions of Zara Philips) is that a Canadian ended up in hospital. I’m sure if the media asked her (or any of the other dozen or so riders that fell on xc last week) they wouldn’t want to focus on how the sport can be dangerous but on how it is an amazing challenge that is one of the greatest sports on earth! Hawley and all the other riders have worked so hard to be where they are, I wish the media would talk about that instead of just talking about an unfortunate accident!

If you want a safe “sport”, stick to badminton where the only exciting thing that has happened in the sport’s history was several teams intentionally screwing up to get matched up with easier teams. Oh yeah, and you can get drunk at some garden party and still “compete” in that “sport” safely. Oh mainstream media, you are funny.
