IHSA fences are much LOWER and easier courses. And typically the horses are seasoned hunters – not too hard to pilot. I know there are exceptions, but the comparison is not valid. IHSA riders are also generally people who are focused on riding alone, not like the penthathletes.

If you want to learn about pentathlon, start with the USPC. Pony Clubbers compete in tetrathlon, which includes everything except the fencing. http://www.tetrathlon.ponyclub.org/Articles.htm

Uhhh… how is this not antithetical to every horse welfare argument we make? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, quite literally, “A horse is not a bicycle. If you want something you can just haul out of the closet and jump on, get a bike.” This just says that yes they are, and as the blonde female in the vid noted, they’re the last thing you actually need to train for. Phooey.

I haven’t seen a single bit of coverage on the dressage or jumping – I’m soooo bummed -I don’t understand why they never show anything here in the states – I’ve been searching the internet for some video footage of the event’s – if you know of any please let me know!

this looks like so much fun, i train horses and give lessons to kids and ive been riding my whole life. My horse and i do this stuff all the time but i would hate to have a horse i didnt know lol.

Sounds like a great sport for all the IEA and IHSA competitors of the world to go into–for IHSA, competitors don’t even get a warm-up fence to try their horse out, they just get on and go.

Is show jumping really 3’9? For some reason I thought it was between 3’3 and 3’6.

Even MORE reason why I want to become a pentathalonist!! I can swim, shoot, run and ride pretty well…I just need to learn how to fence. WHERE can I find a coach, Horse Nation??
