Olympic Happy Hour: July 27

Throughout the Olympics, Horse Nation will be capping off each day with a pint-sized synopsis of the most recent Olympic equestrian sporting festivities. Here’s your Happy Hour report for Friday, July 27.

Today’s big news was that, despite a few tense moments and some unfortunate team jog outfit fashion choices (why encourage blindingly-pale British people to wear shorts in public?), all of the event horses passed the jog.

Eventing dressage begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday; the full schedule of ride times is here.

And, of course, later in the day Olympic spectators were treated to an extravagant Opening Ceremonies dreamed up by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). I couldn’t make heads or tails of the thing without getting dizzy, but the New York Times has a thoughtful write-up here.

Instead of a presidential election this year, can the U.S. get itself an awesome queen?

It’s late, but we’ll be back with more news tomorrow.

Cheerio, and Go Riding!
