Thank you for reading! You are correct that Macaroni did make P.R. jaunts to the White House on occasion, but the idea that he “freely roamed the White House grounds” as some claim is a bit of a romantical stretch. Jackie was of course a true equestrian and regularly foxhunted in the Leesburg Virginia area and kept horses there, and it’s believed that is where Macaroni spent the majority of his time, especially since JFK was actually allergic to horses! Still, you are correct that Macaroni was at least a symbolic member of the Kennedy family at the White House. there is a great video of Caroline riding Mac under her parent’s watchful eye in the Virginia countryside here:
